Dr. Sanjay Kothary, founder of UniPrep101

The founder

Founded by a former UCLA professor.

Thirty years in technology and education.

Sanjay took his PhD in Electrical Engineering at UCLA and was on the academic faculty there before leaving to build his own technology business. He has since started and exited several IT ventures across data warehousing, financial technology, cloud computing and cyber security. In 2023 he returned to his first passion, education, and founded UniPrep101 to give high school students a profile-building international academic experience while they are still in their senior school years.

FAQs

Everything parents ask.

How long is the program?

Both the StemPrep101 and the BizPrep101 programs are between 5 - 9 days long, depending on the option chosen. The 9 day program is inclusive of one weekend in between. Participants arrive on a Sunday, and start the program on a Monday and conclude on Friday for the 5 day program and on Tuesday of the following week for the 9 day program.

Who issues the certifications?

The certifications for the workshops are issued directly by the respective universities themselves - SUTD for the StemPrep101 workshop and by SMU for the BizPrep101 workshop. This is a great value booster to the student's personal profile that lets them stand apart from their peers when applying to universities.

What does the price include?

The price includes: Hotel Accommodation with standard amenities. Scheduled airport transfers. Local transportation for all program related activities. Meals as specified in the daily programs. Tuition. Social activities and events. All standard excursions including admission costs. Graduation certificate & an academic progress report. Vegetarian and Non vegetarian options will be available. We apologise that we will be unable to cater to specific dietary restrictions beyond this.

What equipment are students required to bring?

Students are required to bring their own laptop and chargers for use in the workshops.

What is the booking process?

Participants will have to complete the application form on our website and submit to us via the link provided. We will then set up a video call with the candidates to better understand their profile and also confirm that they are within our eligibility bracket of being from Classes 9 -12 at High School. Once this is done, candidates will be sent a registration email with a payment link for payment by credit / debit card. Payment needs to be made fully at registration.

Is there a booking deadline?

Yes. February 15, 2026 is the booking deadline for the programs starting on June 15, 2026 and March 15, 2026 is the deadline for the programs starting on July 6, 2026. Registrations and payments in full have to be submitted before then. Note that cohort sizes are limited to a maximum of 30 students per program and subject to eligibility, places will be allotted on a first come, first serve basis.

What is the cancellation policy?

Payments need to be made in full at the time of registration. Thereafter, cancellation policy is as under: 90% of fees refunded if cancelled 90 days or more prior to program commencement. 40% of fees refunded if cancelled between 45 and 89 days prior to program commencement. 0% of fees refunded if cancelled 44 days or less prior to program commencement.

What is the level of commitment needed?

Singapore universities are known for their academic rigor, and since they are the ones issuing the program certificates, the minimum requirement to get the certificate, is that the student needs to attend at least 95% of the workshops and score a minimum of 60% on any assessments given. There will be a lot of time for leisure activities, networking and bonding but at the same time, you are expected to work hard while you are in the workshop sessions!.

What is the level of proficiency needed?

A working knowledge of English is a must. Other than that, to maximise the benefit of each program, those applying for the StemPrep101 program should be familiar with Science topics and those registering for the BizPrep101 program should be familiar with basic reasoning and analysis skills.

What about accommodation?

The program price includes accommodation on a twin sharing basis at a modern hotel with all amenities. Upon request, we will provide pricing for those candidates who wish to have single room to themselves. Please note that there is no option to opt out of accommodation for logistical and security reasons.

Are boys and girls housed separately?

Yes, boys and girls will be in separate twin sharing rooms in the hotel.

Who looks after the students?

There will be an overall Program Director who will be overseeing both programs and all students will be able to contact him/her through their mobile, WhatsApp and email. Contact details for the Program Director will be shared well in advance of the commencement of each program batch.

Who will be responsible for procuring the visas?

Participants are responsible for procuring their visas and the costs thereof. We will be happy to provide a letter to registrants confirming that they wish to travel to Singapore for participating in our program.

What about travel insurance?

All participants will mandatorily have to purchase their own comprehensive travel insurance that covers the duration of the trip including but not limited to accidents, medical issues, repatriation and travel related incidents. We have a preferred provider with whom we have negotiated a discounted cost and will be happy to refer students to them. Proof of travel insurance is required prior to commencement of travel for the programs.
